Foot Assessment
The most common foot pain and general problems (eg difficulty walking) are caused by their incorrect positioning and other external factors.
I perform comprehensive assessments to help identify a wide range of foot related problems. The assessment process includes:
- history taking,
- physical examination,
- assessment of foot function
I also use a PodoScope with a Full HD camera to aid identification of foot disorders.
From this, a plan can be produced to resolve the issues. A thorough, accurate diagnosis will lead to a timely resolution.
Hard Skin Treatments
Hard skin such as corns or calluses need to be treated correctly, and it is important to accurately assess and identify before carrying out any corrective treatment.
Similarly, cracked heel is another serious skin defect which is the result of the long-term build-up of hard skin.
As a standard, I clean grooves and cracks with the use of specialized instruments. Sometimes mechanically and sometimes with rotating tools. As always, these are painless processes. A suitable ointment is then applied along with any required soft pads or dressing. Follow up therapy may be recommended to completely resolve the issue.
Nail Problems
Numerously nail plate disorders can be caused by incorrect positioning of the foot. This can be manifested by fungal infections, subungual hematoma, overgrowth of the nail plate, change of shape or it is becoming ingrown toenail.
The basic procedure in such cases is to clean or thin the nail plate with burrs. This is a painless process. A suitable ointment or oil is then applied to the cleaned plate or nail bed. This will help support correct, natural growth of the nail plate.
Often, a damaged nail can be reconstructed, providing any other conditions have been resolved. My nail reconstruction procedure uses an acrylic (silver enhanced) product. This has a secondary benefit of helping to protect against fungicidal and bactericidal infections. This treatment also protects the nail bed against keratosis and allows it to be shaped in such a way that the nail will regrow to look natural and correctly shaped.
